KONSTELASI ARTESEN

Konstelasi comes from the word [constellation], which means "a group of associated or similar people or things" (OED, 2010). Education and celebration being the main drive of this project, to redefine what it means to archive. This platform would be a living space created with care and intimacy, discussing topics of cultural significance and dialogue. It focuses on the significance of artisan roles as forefronts of their practice, in hopes to fill in the blanks of existing institutional archives and highlighting the hands behind these heritage. The first step is to encourage a space of conversation and questions through a living space of undoing, new identities, repairing and the untouched scenes of the traditional textile industry in Indonesia.

VISUAL IDENTITY

The visual identity consist of specifically modified motifs from certain ethnic groups the Javanese, Sundanese and Sasak. For instance, the 'jaya kirana' would often be seen in weaved fabric such as the Balinese or Sasak 'kain endek' and 'tirta, nam tikar, onengan' derives from Javanese batik. The 'jeruk, bunga apel' are common fruits and flowers found in my grandparents' villages, signifying our roots and home.

Through incorporating analogue and digital,  the different patterns is a reflection of the diverse textiles of Indonesia.
